Gateway Community College Welcomes New Students
New Haven, CT - The new 360,000 sf downtown campus for Gateway Community College opened its doors in the heart of New Haven to over 11,000 students with a ribbon cutting ceremony today.

The College, which consists of two new interconnecting buildings, is the first public building in Connecticut to seek LEED Certification at the Gold level. The new facility is expected to allow the college to double its enrollment while providing students access to 90 new general purpose classrooms, 22 computer labs, meeting spaces, a library, bookstore, a small business center, an early learning center, and administrative offices.

Construction of the new campus was completed on time and within budget in order to allow the school to open its doors for the fall 2012 semester. F+F Mechanical, as part of the construction project team, installed over 600 tons of cooling driven by two 300 ton Trane Rotary Screw Chillers and two Series 3000 Baltimore Aircoil Cooling Towers. The chilled water system uses nine energy efficient ice storage tanks. The hydronic heating system is powered by three gas fired Cleaver Brooks Fire Tube Boilers with a backup fuel oil system consisting of two 20,000 gallon fuel oil tanks. The building is fed by four GovenAir Custom Air Handling units which have the capability of producing 382,000 CFM of comfort air in to the building.

Congratulations to the entire project team for successful construction and turnover of the new Gateway Community College.
