LEED® Gold Certification Pending

Gateway Community College
Campus
New Haven, CT

The Gateway Community College Campus was designed with the goal of centralizing the schools' Long Wharf and North Haven campuses in to one easily accessible downtown campus. Located in the heart of downtown New Haven, the 360,000 sf campus features two buildings connected by a bridge that allows students and faculty to easily navigate each part of campus without leaving the building. The first public building in Connecticut to seek LEED certification at the Gold level, the new Gateway Community College maximizes sustainability and energy efficiency in both building and design.

The HVAC system consists of 600 tons of cooling driven by two 300 ton Trane Rotary Screw Chillers and two Series 3000 Baltimore Aircoil Cooling Towers. The chilled water system uses nine energy efficient ice storage tanks. The hydronic heating system is powered by three gas fired Cleaver Brooks Fire Tube Boilers with a back up fuel Oil system consisting of two 20,000 gallon fuel oil tanks. The building is fed by four GovenAir Custom Air Handling units which have the capability of producing 382,000 CFM of comfort air in to the building.
